EMERGENCY AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Lead confidently when others falter

My name is Thomas Prinz and I help executives remain capable of acting in emergencies and crises, with a clear focus on the Human Factor.

Over 30 years of experience in emergency and crisis organisations · Projects in more than 10 countries · Specialising in leadership, team behaviour and psychological safety

Crises cannot be planned. But people can be prepared for them. I help organisations to strengthen their resilience precisely where it counts in an emergency: in the behaviour, communication and interaction of their people.

My offer for your organisation

Whether it’s a hospital, care facility, emergency services or other critical infrastructure: in exceptional situations, it’s not the perfect plan on paper that counts, but how people lead, communicate and work together under pressure. That’s exactly where my services come in.

LEADERSHIP & TEAMS
Management training for crises and exceptional situations

Empower your managers to make decisions under uncertainty, at a fast pace, and under emotional pressure. The focus is on:

  • Decision-making authority and prioritization in critical situations
  • Self-control and mental clarity under stress
  • Confident demeanor and providing guidance in uncertain situations

CREW RESSOURCE MANAGEMENT (CRM)
Team performance training with focus on human factor

Crew Resource Management (CRM) turns professionals into an effective team. The focus is on:

  • Clear, targeted communication
  • Mutual support and reliable feedback
  • Situational awareness and shared situational assessments

SIMULATION & EXERCISES
Crisis management team and simulation training

Realistic, well-moderated scenarios reveal how your organization actually functions in a crisis. The goal is not perfection, but the ability to (re-)act.:

  • Structured decision-making processes in the crisis management team
  • Training of roles, responsibilities, and interfaces
  • Exercises that go beyond paper-based simulation games

LEARNING CULTURE & MENTORING
After Action Reviews & Mentoring

Learning from exercises and real events without assigning blame. That is the basis of a resilient organization.:

  • Structured after-action reviews (AAR)
  • Support for crisis managers and staff leaders
  • Development of an open, learning-oriented safety culture

More than just plans: My approach to emergency and crisis management

In critical moments, it is not the document in the folder that matters, but people’s behavior. That is why the human factor is at the heart of my work. I combine scientifically based methods with experience-based training formats.

Focus on the human factor

My work is based on concepts from aviation, medicine, emergency response organizations, and high-risk industries.:

  • Crew Resource Management (CRM)
  • Human factors and just culture
  • Psychological safety and learning organizations

The goal is for managers and teams to think clearly, communicate openly, and make sound decisions together, even under high pressure.

Experience-based rather than just on paper

Organizations learn best when they realistically simulate situations and then analyze them honestly. That’s why I work with:

  • Virtual and in-person tabletops
  • Customized simulations instead of standard scenarios
  • Clearly moderated reflections that reveal patterns.

This creates a culture in which crises are not repressed, but rather used as an opportunity for further development.

I train people, not paragraphs. Crisis management skills begin with attitude, clarity, and communication—and can be developed in a targeted manner.

About me

I am Thomas Prinz – crisis expert, trainer, and consultant for the human factor in emergency and crisis management. For over 30 years, I have been helping organizations, authorities, and companies to remain capable of acting in exceptional situations.

Crises cannot be planned. But people can be prepared for them.

My experience comes from practical work: as a long-standing Provincial Chief Commander for the Red Cross in Vienna, as a consultant in healthcare, emergency services, local authorities, zoos, and educational institutions—and from projects in more than 10 countries on three continents.

I know the stress that those in positions of responsibility experience during a crisis. And I know how important it is to prepare them for these situations in good time—professionally, mentally, and organizationally.

What I stand for:
  • Strengthening the human factor in emergency and crisis management
  • Improving leadership and team behavior in crises
  • Promoting an honest learning culture (e.g., through after-action reviews)
  • Simulation-based learning instead of purely theoretical planning exercises
  • Understanding psychological dynamics under pressure

My background in IT security and strategic business management helps me to take a holistic view of human behavior, processes, and organizations.
